Another "Vermeer" in more traditional style, also found at van Meegeren's Nice
villa. An additional reason for its not being sold may have been that, according to
Coremans, "although the photograph may give it the appearance of a good work, its
texture can mislead no-one". The cracking of the paint surface seems to have been
made by rolling it around a cylinder rather than simulating the more random effects of
age.
